Giving to SLIS

Since the first classes at the Wisconsin Library School more than 100 years ago, the School of Library and Information Studies has counted on alumni and friends to help us fulfill our educational missions. SLIS welcomes the many ways in which alumni give to the School: through their time and their talents, and their gifts.

How SLIS gifts are used:

Scholarships and fellowships. SLIS scholarships help bridge the funding gap for a number of students each year. The 2008-2009 tuition for a full-time Wisconsin resident is now about $10,025 per year; for a Minnesota resident, about $11,340; for a non-resident, about $25,000.

Faculty research and curriculum support. Support to enable a faculty member to pursue research or retooling of the curriculum to help us keep pace with our rapidly changing field. Flexible funds we can use to match graduate school funding help us to attract high quality faculty.

Instructional flexibility. Flexible funds to enable us to take advantage of the presence of instructors with unusual expertise or to fill gaps.

Distinguished professorship. Alumni donations can help provide a salary supplement for an accomplished professor, allowing us greater latitude in recruitment and retention of faculty.
