2014 Librarians' Tour of Scotland: June 27 - July 6, 2014

About the Tour:

SLIS-CES is pleased to announce the 2014 Librarians' Tour of Scotland!  The tour is open to librarians and library staff, students, and to people who enjoy using libraries!  The tour is guided by Jane Pearlmutter, who is pleased to lead her 14th Librarian's Tour of Scotland this summer.  This international program offers library professionals continuing education units.  Additionally, a one-credit option for graduate students is available!  Please explore this page to view details about this exciting opportunity.  Direct questions about the tour to Meredith Lowe (608-890-0364).

Space for the tour is limited, and the sign-up deadline is April 1, 2014.  A non-refundable $500 deposit is due upon registration in order to reserve your space.  SLIS-CES recommends that you check in with Meredith Lowe before making non-refundable flight arrangements.

Cost of the Tour:

$2500* plus airfare (based on double occupancy). The price includes 9 nights accommodations in Edinburgh and Glasgow, instructional fees (non-credit), all breakfasts and four dinners, transportation and entry fees for group excursions, insurance, and gratuities. A limited number of single rooms are also available ($499 supplement).

*the University reserves the right to adjust the fee if necessary up until March 21, 2014 to reflect significant changes in exchange rate, if applicable, or if the group size is small.

The payment for the tour may be paid all at once, or in installments:

  •  The registration fee ($500) is due by April 1, 2014.
  •  The second payment ($1000) is due by May 1, 2014
  •  The third payment ($1000) and single supplement ($499, if applicable) are due by June 1, 2014

Transportation/Physical Demands:

This tour will make use of a small-sized tour bus, which has limited luggage capacity.  Participants should be able to manage their own luggage as we travel between cities, and pack as lightly as possible due to the very limited luggage capacity on the bus.  A fair amount of walking should be expected, and the pace is steady. There is often limited access to elevators, and the tour will have to negotiate some stairs and hills. If you have any physical conditions which may cause trouble, make a point to discuss this journey with your physician, and advise Meredith Lowe of special needs as soon as possible.

How to Register:

Before you register, please read the Conditions and General Information.

Please read and sign the Statement of Responsibility, and mail it to Meredith Lowe, 600 N. Park Street, Madison, WI 53706.  Receipt of this statement is mandatory for participation in the tour.
