Beta Beta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Phi Mu |
Beta Phi Mu was founded at the University of Illinois in 1948 to promote scholarship through the maintenance of high standards for admission to its ranks, through publications distinguished for their content and design, through important lecture series in its chapters, and through the provision of scholarships. Membership is granted to candidates who have completed advanced degrees at ALA accredited programs with a scholastic average of 3.75 or higher and are in the top 25% of the graduating class. Other requirements include recommendation by the faculty of the school and acceptance of the invitation within five years. The Society was formally admitted to membership in the Association of College Honor Societies in 1968.
The Beta Beta Epsilon chapter of Beta Phi Mu was formed in 1984 at the School of Library and Information Studies, University of Wisconsin, Madison. Any member of the Society in good standing is eligible to join the local chapter. The purposes of the chapter are:

Apply now for the Jack A. Clarke Scholarship
Beta Beta Epsilon seeks applicants for the 2007 Jack A. Clarke scholarship of $1400, applicable towards completing a Master's degree at the UW-Madison School of Library and Information Studies.

This award is presented to a student who is eligible for Beta Phi Mu due to high scholastic achievement and faculty recommendation. The winner is chosen by SLIS faculty using criteria such as outstanding class participation, outside activities, and professional promise. Several students are named as runners-up. The recipient's name is engraved on a plaque listing past winners.
Membership runs May through May and dues are accepted any time. To renew your membership, please fill out this form and mail to the BBE Treasurer, whose address is on the form.
