Field Placement/Practicum Requirement
SLIS partners with libraries, archives and information agencies at UW-Madison, the Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Public Library Systems, the Madison Metropolitan School District and local corporations and non-profit agencies to provide a supervised practicum or field project for all master’s students. A 120-hour practicum is required for distance students - who can choose practicum sites close to home.
SLIS students in the on-campus MA program have three ways to fulfill their field placement or practicum requirement (see note):
(1) Field Project in Library and Information Agencies: LIS 620 or C&I 620
(2) Field Project in Library and Information Literacy Instruction: LIS 826
(3) 40-hour Practicum
[Please note that beginning with the Fall 2012 in-coming class, all MA students will be required to complete a 120-hour practicum]
Questions?
Students in the on-campus program with questions about the practicum requirement should contact Dr. Allison Kaplan.
Questions about the practicum requirement for distance students should be directed to Debra Shapiro, Coordinator of the distance program.
