Graphic Novels in the Library
Login information for the course will be emailed to students a few days before the course begins. The graphic novel, as evidenced by its increasingly positive recognition in the mainstream media, has proved itself to be an accepted and honored storytelling format. Librarians have helped foster this recognition by collecting graphic novels and promoting them to library users. This class is designed to help participants become familiar with the graphic novel format, as well as more confident in incorporating graphic novels into library collections, whether they are working with an existing collection or starting from scratch. Course Expectations:To pass the course, participants must complete the readings, contribute to online discussions, and submit one short project. Readings:No textbook is required. A short graphic novel reading list will be provided when you register, and all other class readings will be available online. Instructor:Sarah Hartman is the Adult Services Librarian at the Middleton (Wisconsin) Public Library, where she has developed and marketed a highly successful adult graphic novel collection.
