Genealogy Library Services

This four-week online course prepares you to provide library and archival services to genealogists. In these sessions you acquire a practical knowledge of genealogical users and resources, and explore related topics including reference, cataloging, collection development, outreach, and professional development.

Expectations:

A pass/fail grade is based on reading online material, participating in online discussions, and completing one short assignment.

Your instructor:

Irene Hansen is a Ph.D. student in Library and Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a background in genealogy. She also is a reference librarian at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Irene also was employed at the local and family history section of The Newberry Library, the Special Collections Dept. of the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Illinois Historical Survey in Urbana-Champaign, and the Genealogy Dept. of the Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
