Dates: February 15 - March 28
Fee: $150
CEUs / LEUs: 1.8 / 18

With thousands of titles published and marketed to young adults each year, it's becoming increasingly difficult for librarians and educators to stay abreast of new teen literature and make the best selections and recommendations in programs, in the classroom and day-to-day services. This class highlights a broad range of noteworthy titles published within the last three years.

Participants:

  • Read and review a variety of titles across genres and new formats.
  • Gain skills in "book talking" and use of online tools to share books with teens.
  • Explore innovative programs and activities that engage teen readers of all kinds.
  • Meet new colleagues and share experiences about connecting teens with literature.

Expectations:

Students read and review a variety of titles across genres and new formats. Reading expectations include one title per week plus occasional articles, reviews, and Web content.

Your instructor:

Christy Mulligan has worked with teens in rural, suburban, and urban public libraries since 2003. She served on the Young Adult Library Services Association's Best Books for Young Adults committee in 2008, which publishes a list of significant fiction and non-fiction titles published in the current year with proven or potential appeal to young adults.
