Collection Development Summer Camp by the Lake

Note: This course partially satisfies the requirements for Wisconsin and Indiana public library director certification.

Sharpen your collection development skills surrounded by the beauty of Heidel House Resort in Green Lake, WI (at the state room rate!). This one-week course will cover collection development issues that apply to all types of libraries. You will learn to identify, select, acquire, and evaluate a collection of library resources (e.g., print materials, audiovisual materials, electronic resources) for a community of users.   • Serials (print and electronic), other electronic resources, licensing issues

  • Copyright and digitization issues
  • Censorship and challenges
  • Impact of electronic resources on print collections and user behavior

Course Expectations:

There are no written assignments for this class, but there will be light reading assignments for each day.

Instructor

Jane Pearlmutter, associate director of UW-Madison School of Library and Information Studies, conducts frequent workshops and courses on collection development and library management issues.

Lodging

Rooms are available under "UW Continuing Education Services" at the Heidel House Resort. Please make reservations by June 20, 2008; rooms will be released after that date. Call 1-800-444-2812 to make reservations. Rooms are not included in the course fee.

The Heidel House provides complimentary parking for the course.
